In 1898, Nigohos Bedrosyan designed an impressive commercial building for the Armenian Sarkis Kuyumjian, a textile merchant.
The building is located at 2 Otets Paisiy Street, and in its original form consisted of six separate shops with galleries in the prater and warehouses located on the first floor.
Sarkis Kuyumdjian moved from Constantinople to Ruse in 1892 with his family. In the years in which he lived here, in addition to being a prominent textile merchant, he was a manager of the Anglo-Bulgarian joint-stock company for the production of umbrellas, as well as a member of the board of Tsar Boris Gunpowder Joint-Stock Company.
Around 1910 he moved to England and later opened a factory in Manchester. He donated a large part of his property in Ruse to the Armenian Church in the city, which is still supported by his legacy.
His youngest son, Dikran, who was born in Ruse, is a famous writer and screenwriter in the United States under the pseudonym Michael Arlen.
Over the years, the building has been used for sewing workshops, offices of various institutions, and now on the ground floor is a tavern "Chiflika". To this day, the building houses furniture and belongings owned by the prominent Kuyumjian family.
